AutoScalr announces Managed EC2 Environments that extend the 60-85% savings potential of Spot instances to individual EC2 applications while still guaranteeing specified availability requirements, all without requiring any code changes. Historically only "cloud-native" autoscaled applications could leverage the cost savings of Spot instances, or else the application itself had to be modified to become "Spot-aware" and handle the inevitable case of the instance being reclaimed unexpectedly at some point in time. AutoScalr's Managed EC2 Environments allows making a single instance EC2 application "Spot-aware" by simply tagging the instance, no code changes required. If the instance is ever lost due to a Spot termination, a replacement instance is automatically started with the same internal state (EBS volume) and network IP, completely transparent to any clients. AutoScalr's unique patent-pending technology measures and enforces the specified availability requirements, guaranteeing that if the availability is threatened by too many Spot interruptions, the instance will remain in On-Demand or Reserved, otherwise AutoScalr maximizes savings by moving the instance back to Spot when capacity allows. Other features of the new product offering include automated snapshots scheduling and scheduled start/stop times for applications that do not require 24 by 7 operations.
